Characterization Method of the V-shaped High-Temperature Superconducting Maglev Module for Transport System Applications

Abstract It is now recognized that high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology has a significant potential for future magnetic levitation (Maglev) transit system applications due to the advantages of self-stable levitation, being free electric power and drag vehicle motion, simplicity. This article provides characterization method experimental transport Maglev module developed at University L’Aquila (Italy). More specifically, lifting guiding behavior single V-shaped module, which unique this type application, analyzed tested. Its working principle based on interaction between HTS “skate” onboard field generated by permanent magnets distributed guideway (PMG). A scaled was built tested under quasi-static conditions using dedicated measuring equipment varying parameters such as vertical gap, lateral offset, cooling height. The latter determines amount interacting trapped in core during its transition from resistive state which, turn, interacts with PMG create suspension phenomenon. module’s dual double phenomenon repulsion attraction been verified terms forces parameters. “push pull” force allows driving be enhanced.
